The Subconscious Mind vs. the Conscious Mind

In my energy healing sessions, I sometimes need to connect with a client’s subconscious mind—and there’s a powerful reason why.

Research shows that only 5% of our brain activity is driven by the conscious mind, while a staggering 95% comes from the subconscious. That means most of what influences your thoughts, feelings, and actions is happening beneath your awareness.

But what’s the difference between the conscious and subconscious mind?

The Conscious Mind: The One You're Aware Of

Let’s start with the conscious mind, since that’s the part we’re most familiar with. This is the part of your mind that:

  • Handles short-term memory

  • Processes abstract thinking {big picture, understanding intangible concepts like fear, freedom, etc}

  • Thinks about the past and the future

  • Understands language

  • Is creative, logical, and critical

  • Can accept or reject ideas

  • Differentiates between real and imaginary

Basically, your conscious mind is your thinking, learning, decision-making brain. It's what you use when you're solving a problem, making a choice, or having a conversation.

The Subconscious Mind: The Silent Powerhouse

Your subconscious mind is a whole different story. It’s much more powerful in terms of capacity and influence. This part of your mind:

  • Stores long-term memories

  • Thinks literally, not abstractly

  • Operates only in the present moment (everything feels like “now”)

  • Doesn't rely on language—it speaks in energy

  • Learns through repetition and habits

  • Accepts all information—it can’t reject it

  • Is emotional, sometimes irrational

  • Can’t tell the difference between real and imaginary

Here’s the kicker: the subconscious accepts “truths” from your conscious mind—even if they’re not actually true. And over time, these beliefs become deeply embedded.

How Subconscious Beliefs Form

Let’s say you were told repeatedly as a child that you were “stupid.” Even if it wasn’t true, your subconscious would absorb that message as fact. It would then filter your life experiences through that belief—affecting your confidence, choices, and relationships.

Kind of scary, right? These subconscious ‘truths’—often formed in childhood—can quietly shape your entire adult life without you even realizing it.

But the good news is: they can be changed.

Rewriting the Program

That’s where energy healing—especially the Belief Code—comes in. By working with the subconscious mind, we can identify and release:

  • Negative Programs

  • Limiting Beliefs

  • Faulty Core Beliefs

  • Faulty Core Identities

With the Belief Code, we can find and remove the root cause of these beliefs, often in just a few sessions. Clearing out what no longer serves you opens the door to a lighter, more empowered version of yourself.
